To the paramedics, police officers, firefighters, air ambulance crews and pre-hospital critical care teams who attend motorcycle incidents across the UK: we'd like to introduce ourselves.
We're VEXA.
And if you haven't seen us before, we'd like to change that.

VEXA is a UK motorcycle rider protection system designed around a simple problem.
What happens when a rider can't speak for themselves?
Following a serious collision or medical emergency, a motorcyclist may be unconscious, confused, incapacitated or otherwise unable to communicate.
Their phone may be damaged, locked, lost or inaccessible.
Yet there may be information about that rider that could be useful to the people attending the incident.
That's where VEXA comes in.
A rider can create an Emergency Rider Profile containing information they choose to provide, such as:
That profile can then be linked to VEXA equipment carried or worn by the rider.
We've deliberately designed VEXA so that emergency responders don't need specialist equipment or a dedicated VEXA app.
If you encounter VEXA on a rider, there are three ways you may be able to access their Emergency Rider Profile.
TAP
Compatible VEXA products use NFC technology and can be tapped with a compatible smartphone.
SCAN
VEXA QR codes can be scanned using a smartphone camera.
RIDER ID
Every activated rider profile has a unique VEXA Rider ID, such as:
VEXA-AB1C23
This can be entered through VEXA Emergency Access to locate the associated emergency profile.
No VEXA app.
No emergency-service VEXA account.
No responder login.
TAP. SCAN. RIDER ID.
That's what we'd like emergency responders to remember.
A rider may have VEXA in several places.
You might encounter a VEXA metal Card carried by the rider, a VEXA Key attached to their keys, a VEXA QR marker on their motorcycle helmet, or a VEXA FLARE wearable on their wrist.
If you see the VEXA name, QR identification or Rider ID on a rider or their equipment, it may provide access to their Emergency Rider Profile.
Our aim is to make VEXA increasingly recognisable at the roadside.
Because technology is only useful if the people who encounter it understand what it is.
Where a rider has provided emergency contacts, those details can be displayed within their Emergency Rider Profile.
A telephone call can be initiated from a compatible phone by tapping the displayed contact control.
For somebody who may be unconscious or otherwise unable to communicate, having an accessible route to the contact information they chose to provide could be valuable.
This distinction is important.
Information contained within a VEXA Emergency Rider Profile is supplied and maintained by the rider.
VEXA is not a replacement for clinical assessment, established NHS procedures, police identification procedures or professional judgement.
Information such as medications, allergies, medical conditions or a rider-entered blood type should be treated as supplementary rider-supplied information and handled according to established emergency-service procedures.
VEXA isn't trying to replace what emergency responders already do.
We're trying to make information the rider wanted available easier to find when they cannot provide it themselves.
You regularly meet people on some of the worst days of their lives.
If you find VEXA on an injured motorcyclist, we'd like you to recognise it.
Tap it. Scan it. Or use their Rider ID.
It may provide access to information that rider specifically chose to make available for an emergency.
Particularly those working within roads policing and attending serious motorcycle collisions:
If you see VEXA equipment, a VEXA QR code or a VEXA Rider ID, it may link to the rider's Emergency Rider Profile.
That profile may contain rider-supplied identification information, emergency contacts, motorcycle details and other emergency information.
Firefighters frequently work alongside ambulance and police colleagues at serious road traffic collisions.
If you encounter VEXA while assisting a motorcyclist, accessing it is deliberately simple:
TAP. SCAN. RIDER ID.
No specialist VEXA equipment is required and accessing VEXA should never delay rescue, extrication, immediate treatment or established incident procedures.
Some motorcycle collisions require the highest levels of pre-hospital care.
Where a rider cannot communicate, their VEXA profile may provide another source of rider-supplied emergency information, including emergency contacts, allergies, medications, medical conditions and relevant emergency notes.
Again, that information is supplementary.
But our philosophy is simple:
If the rider wanted emergency responders to have that information, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find it.
Because VEXA only reaches its full potential when both sides understand it.
We can educate riders.
We can encourage them to keep their emergency information up to date.
We can put VEXA on their wrist, helmet, keys or in their wallet.
But there's another piece of the puzzle.
Recognition.
We want UK emergency responders to recognise VEXA when they see it.
We want the words TAP. SCAN. RIDER ID. to immediately make sense.
And that's why we're introducing ourselves.
VEXA has been built for real-world motorcycle emergencies, so feedback from the people who actually attend those emergencies matters enormously to us.
If you're a paramedic, police officer, firefighter, air ambulance crew member, critical care clinician or another frontline emergency responder, we'd genuinely like to hear from you.
What information would be useful?
What could be clearer?
What would make VEXA easier to recognise at the roadside?
Is there something we've overlooked?
Tell us.
We'd rather build VEXA with input from the people who may actually encounter it than simply assume we know what you need.
If you take only one thing away from this article, make it this:
If you see VEXA on a motorcyclist:
No app required.
No VEXA account required.
Just rider-supplied emergency information, designed to be accessible when the rider may not be able to speak for themselves.
To Britain's emergency responders: this is VEXA.
We hope that if you encounter us at the roadside, you'll know exactly what you're looking at.
Important: VEXA is an independent rider-safety service. Information within an Emergency Rider Profile is supplied and maintained by the rider and is intended to supplement, not replace, established emergency-service procedures, clinical assessment, verification or professional judgement. VEXA is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NHS, UK Police, UK Fire & Rescue Services or Air Ambulance organisations unless explicitly stated.
