No rider sets off expecting to crash.

Nobody puts their helmet on thinking that today will be the day a car pulls out, a corner tightens unexpectedly, diesel has been spilled across the road or another driver simply fails to see them.

But accidents do not make appointments.

They do not wait until you have finished thinking about it.

They do not care how experienced you are, how carefully you ride or how well you know the road.

“I’m a safe rider.”

You might be.

But you are not the only person using the road.

You cannot control the driver looking at their phone. You cannot control the vehicle emerging from a junction. You cannot control an animal running into the road, a mechanical failure or a patch of debris hidden around a bend.

Motorcycle safety has never been only about how good you are.

That is why we wear helmets. That is why we buy protective clothing. That is why we insure our bikes.

We prepare for things we hope will never happen.

So why would your emergency information be any different?

“I have everything on my phone.”

Your phone may be locked.

It may be damaged, out of battery or lying somewhere away from you after an impact. Even if it is still working, somebody at the scene may not know where to find your emergency information.

Your phone is useful, but it should not be your only plan.

If you are unconscious, confused or unable to speak, somebody needs a fast and obvious way to discover who you are, who should be contacted and what important information you have chosen to make available.
